What and Why

I am interested in words.  Spoken ones and sung; rapped and written. I am curious to explore hiphopography and the ways that MC-ing style can be viewed as theory.  Postcolonial readings and popular musicology excite me.  I am passionate about the democratic potential of media; old and new.  I deeply love poetry and slam; am endlessly fascinated by identification, gender and creativity.  Great writing annihilates me.  Learning, teaching, reading, writing and research are lifetime pursuits.

The Future of Ideas

This video is from the Plangere Culture Lab at Rutgers University.  I am very inspired by their approach to writing pedagogy in these digitised times, in their argument for visual literacy, and for open access of academic content. I highly recommend watching this video, and indeed reading Richard Miller's articles, books, and his text2cloud online space for experimental critical writing.

University Learning and Teaching

I am currently taking a course in University Learning and Teaching, which is provided by the University of Wollongong, where I teach.  So far I have learnt about 'depth' and 'surface' learning styles, and have been reflecting on my own learning experiences, and therefore perhaps my own bias in the way I teach.  Good food for thought, as I actually am passionate about great teaching at a University level.  I look forward to learning more.
